Shachiko was founded in 2018. It’s a female voice ensemble made up of famous female gorillas chosen from Nagoya. We respect Shabani, the handsome male gorilla at Higashiyama Zoo. Our aim is to create "Gorilliant Harmony," a sound that is both powerful and beautiful, and our voices are becoming more powerful each year.
So far, we have participated in the Karuizawa International Choral Festival and the National Vocal Ensemble Contest, as well as supporting performances of other organizations' concerts. We like to go out of the prefecture to perform, and our "raison d'être" is to eat delicious local food.
When the chorus group was founded, we were young, but now, some of us have become mama gorillas, so we feel reluctant to call ourselves "Shachiko." , because "ko" means young girl.
The shout during the routine before the performance is "Woo! Ho!"
伊東 恵司
Conductor born and living in Kyoto. Ito coaches every category of choirs
and tackles every style of pieces. He won the Grand Prix at the 20th
Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest, the 2nd prize and Mauro
Chiocci’s special award at the 58th Seghizzi international choir
contest. He was chosen as a special guest with Naniwa Choraliers at the
10th World Symposium on Choral Music in Seoul and with Ensemble Vine at
the 11th one in Barcelona. He also writes lyrics as Minori Minazuki. His
works have been composed by many composers.
