Japan

The female choir, "Pause," was founded in 1997, succeeding a mothers' choral group at Egota Elementary School in Tokyo. It has performed various choral, religious, and folklore music from Japan and abroad. While carrying out busy days at workplaces and homes, the members have always enjoyed singing together. The group has participated in various competitions, including the Mothers' Choir Contest every year since it won the gold prize in the Ensemble Contest in Saitama in 2000. It held concerts in Suginami in 2007 and 2016. The members meet for practice every Saturday afternoon. Pause forms the "YK Kranz," a joint choir led by Kimiko Yoshida with its sister groups, "Nozomi" in Setagaya and "Frauen Choir Wonne" in Kamakura.

Kimiko Yoshida has conducted Pause, its predecessor, and other female choirs for over 40 years. She's a dedicated conductor and a trainer who emphasizes accurate tuning and understanding of words. Her lessons are vibrant and filled with joy and excitement. She won gold prizes in the ensemble contests in Tokyo, Saitama, and Kanagawa and was awarded many times in the Okaasan (Mothers') chorus contests. She founded Jeudi, one of Japan's oldest continuing female choirs, with the other 11 members in 1971. As a great fan of Ichiro and Shohei Ohtani, she enjoys watching the Major League games on TV.
