SMADA YOUTH SINGERS (SYS) is a Senior High School Choir located in Surabaya,
Indonesia (SMAN 2 Surabaya). SYS was established on 12th March, 2010.This choir made up of 30 talented students from grade 10 to grade 11. Since its establishment, SYS has been
improved and encouraged by the Alumnus, Parents, and the Music Director, Muhammad Iqbal Tawakal. SYS has performed in numerous choral competitions and concerts. In the past years, the choir group has accomplished a number of achivements. In 2017, we participated in Singapore International Choral Festival and the choir was awarded Gold awards. We strives to improve constantly and develop musical skills by the beautiful repetoars. After long pandemic, our young choristers hope to bring joy to the audiences through the art of choral singings.
MUHAMMAD IQBAL TAWAKKAL
He started his career as a singer in 2009 by joining the Airlangga University Choir which was
directed by Mr. Yosafat Rannu Leppong. As a singer, he has attended several classes such as conducting and basic vocal classes. He also joined several independent choirs such as Surabaya Singers, Coro Semplice Indonesia, and Chandelier Choir. He became a music director of Smada Youth Singers since 2013 and received several awards and achievements in national and international choir competitions. He also attended a masterclass conducting by Dr. Brady Allfred (USA) and vocal pedagogy for choral singers by Prof. Ma Cecilia Ongsiako Valena (Phillippines).
