Hngzyang na Matui&Nahuy Children's Choir is composed of students and some graduates of Jiaxing Primary School. More than 95% of the students are descendants of the Atayal people (the third largest aboriginal group in Taiwan). Most of their parents worked in agriculture and forestry, while others worked in factories far from their villages. As a result, nearly 75% of children live in the care of grandparents. However, the school is rich in natural and cultural assets and is home to a pure community of people with a talent for acting and a willingness to absorb everything the world has to offer. Therefore, in order to provide students with a dynamic learning environment, the school has established a choir since September 2016.With the teachers’ dedication, the plenty musical courses have helped the students rediscover their own traditional culture and further appreciate the ancestors’ legacy by singing the Atayal folksongs. Our goal is to let the world see the Atayal people, and let the Atayal people see the world.
