The Akita Vocal Music Collegium Mixed Choir

The Akita Vocal Music Collegium, founded in 1988 in northern Akita Prefecture, unites vocalists and pianists to rejuvenate regional musical activities. The association has earned notable accolades, including the 24th Akita Arts Award in 1998 and the Special Prize of the Kinouchi Music Award in 2003. A significant milestone was reached in 2012 with the debut of The Akita Vocal Music Collegium Mixed Choir during its 26th regular concert, marking an expansion of its musical endeavors.
The Collegium’s excellence was highlighted in 2023 when the female chorus, Cant Amsel, won the Grand Prix in the senior division at the 5th Tokyo International Choral Competition. Continuing their success, in 2024, The Akita Vocal Music Collegium Mixed Chorus performed Rutter’s “Requiem” at a local New Year’s Concert and secured another Grand Prix in the senior division at the 6th Tokyo International Choir Competition. Throughout its history, the Collegium has consistently advanced local music, earned prestigious awards, and fostered artistic collaborations, significantly enhancing its cultural impact.
