The women's voice ensemble "The Mermaids" was formed in 2013 with the concept of "building a delicate ensemble that makes the most of each member's voice." The ensemble mainly comprises people who have studied music professionally and those with experience in choral singing. In addition to holding four recitals to date, the ensemble has performed at many concerts, including the Tokyo Chorus Festival and concerts by the Japan Kodaly Society, and has also won prizes in competitions, including the Kanagawa Vocal Ensemble Contest Gold Prize (2018), the Tokyo Spring Chorus Contest Classical and Contemporary Music Division Gold Prize (2022), and the ICOT Tokyo International Choir Competition Chamber Choir Division Gold Prize (2023), and its abilities are highly regarded. classical and contemporary music category (2022) and the ICOT Tokyo International Choral Competition chamber choir category (2023), and their abilities are highly regarded. Masafumi Ogawa

Choral conductor and music education scholar. Professor Emeritus at Yokohama National University. Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Vocal Music, and completed the same university's graduate school. Completed the doctoral program at Indiana University, Doctor of Music Education (D.M.E.). Music director of the female ensemble The Mermaids, and regular conductor of the Yokohama National University female chorus Dancing Dolphins, and conductor of the mixed chorus Niji no Kai. Member of the JCDA Japan.
